Shameful Day Indeed

I listened to President Obama today and I too am just as angry and disappointed in the Senate as he is. Please explain to me why we need background checks for jobs but no checks for guns. Why do I need a background check to rent an apartment but not need one to buy a gun from a little gun dealer name Bubba? Closing loopholes does not prevent you idiots from buying guns!

To the Republicans that voted to block the bill…I expect nothing less of you heartless people.

To the Democrats that caved and blocked  the bill…explain yourselves, cowards.

To the NRA who is simply smiling and gloating now please know that we the mothers, the fathers, the American people  see you for the sham  you are  and will not stop fighting you.

To the American People disappointed, especially those who have suffered from senseless gun tragedies: Everything will be alright in the end. And since it is not alright it most certainly is not the end.

The Year of Foolishness

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to heaven, we were all going direct the other way – in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.

Charles Dickens

I don’t believe anything is more fitting to describe the last year in America than this opening from Tale of Two Cities. It was the incredulous year that brought us Romney vs. Obama, Conservatives vs. Liberals, Teabaggers vs. Government, Sanity vs. Insanity, Fox vs. MSNBC, Rich vs. Poor and the Angry White Christian Male vs. Women/Blacks/Latinos/Asians/Gays etc. It has been a year of hateful buffoonery.

Hate was a cultural theme throughout the year as we headed towards November elections. America 1 wanted to bring us back to an era lost, the wonderful golden age when Black Americans were second class citizens, women possessed little rights in the workplace or home, Latinos were obsolete in the polls, and white men were the only men who could call the White House home. America 1 does not want your sick, your tired or poor or huddled masses that yearn to breathe free. America 1 wants you to die of a heart attack if you can not afford healthcare and freedom is subjective.

America 2 wants to pilot us into a better future, care for the sick, the poor and personal freedoms. America 2 grew in numbers that restored a lot of my personal faith in humanity. America 2 fought hard and long against the racism, the sexism and for the equality of all people, not just a chosen few.

America 2 gave us Barak Obama while America 1 gave us pathological liar/robot Mitt Romney. America 1 gave us voter suppression, long voting lines, and lie after lie about socialism, entitlements, welfare, and who saved the auto industry. America 2 stood in lines for up to seven hours, knocked on doors, went toe to toe with Citizens United, and sent Tagg Romney a clear message: America does NOT want your dad.

America 1 spewed lies via Fox News and its elected officials. America 2 gave us MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow and Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart.

America 1 gave us Rush ‘Jabba the Fatass’ Limbaugh, Glen ‘American Terrorist Bastard’ Beck, Michelle ‘Batshit Crazy’ Bachman, and Sarah ‘STFU’ Palin, repeatedly, like irremovable cysts in our ass. Their audience is the most uninformed and least educated electorate ever. They shun education; remember when Rick Santorum uttered this gem; President Obama once said he wants everybody in America to go to college, what a snob. America 2 said What an idiot, yet America 1 cheered this kind of rhetoric; Anti-Obama, Anti-Education and very Pro-Stupidity world. America 2 gave everyone the right to affordable college tuition/loans/grants.

It would be nice to say that after November the two Americas would come together and stand united but the shootings in Newtown, CT has even proven to divide us. Very sad that such a tragedy only invoked more bitterness from America 1 with the intent of keeping guns instead of regulating laws to keep them out of the hands of people who clearly do not need them.

Onward to 2013 we go. The fight will continue…

Dear Mitt,

I was one of those Democrats that when you announced you were running for President was really interested in what you a moderate Republican would say. I have voted for moderate Republicans, I am from Massachusetts although I was absent from the state while  you were governor. I knew how torn the country was over President Obama’s race, yes, I have stop deluding myself that the majority of the GOP just didn’t like his policies, so I thought if he were to be replaced, why not a moderate Republican. WHEW, what a difference actually listening to you made. You courted the ignorance and divisiveness and the racial ignorance. You Did That.

Well, it’s a new day and after all your assholicism, all of  your lies, your GOP manipulations…really, voter suppression in 2012? Blacks, Hispanics, Asians and women, we don’t matter, really Mit?  Well, Tuesday we all got to say goodnight Mr. Romney but I just wanted to leave you and your dear Ann a song that really describes how I feel about saying goodbye to you.

Signed,

All those Americans you didn’t even try to include in your Presidency. What kind of BS is that?

What goes around…

Corporate BS

The decisions we make and a few we don’t usually have a way of turning up for reconciliation, redemption or revenge. I had a few of those this month that made me question who I am, who I want to be, and how I want to be respected. The reason for my weeks long absence.

The last few months I have had to listen to stories of old co-workers as their jobs are outsourced to another country. Several of them were actually sent to that country to train the people who would be taking their jobs. As of July 1st friends from my old job were all let go.

While one friend did expenses for her top executive boss, $350 for dinner, $300 for one night hotel, $90 for lunch and $600 for monthly parking in the building garage, the people down the hall from her were packing their desks. It cost a lot of money to entertain other CEO’s so a company can broker deals with them <Please insert smirk here>

I’m not trying to slam capitalism but I agree with President Obama when he says you didn’t build this on your own. I know Mitt has been running on the misquote but I understand what the President was trying to say and the point he made is valid. I admire a good old rags to riches story. It is admirable to see someone with a dream and a determination and see it all come to fruition. But many of those dreams had help and often that help came from the people whose names will never be in the Wall Street Journal but they are very, very silent partners in someone else’s success. Not all of us have that drive or ambition to be a CEO. Some of us are just the worker bees but if it were not for the worker bees where would these companies be? If there is no back office could the front office even operate?

Its summer and the old saying is that many a deal is made on the golf course. How awesome is that? While some are wondering how they are going to pay a car note others are riding around golf courses making ‘deals’.

I am feeling quite vulnerable these days. It’s not a great feeling at all and it can be very self-depreciating.  I can’t say I’m feeling better but I have made the decision to take better care of my destiny.

be the change I want to see in the world.

On a final note…

Think about what this man will do for you and your country.

Education is a Right for Everyone not Weed

Education is not a dirty word. It is not only for the wealthy. Slaves fought for it. It’s not just a privilege it is a right.

Without education, you are not going anywhere in this world. Malcolm X

I actually get what Mitt is saying here but if the cost of education keeps rising then it becomes an issue of only the wealthy can afford it. So, where does that leave the poor without options of education? Where does that leave whole communities like ours who do not have economic wealth? A clear line drawn between the haves and the have-nots.

So I don’t understand the grumblings of young black Americans who feel the President needs to be concerned about weed when there are pressing issues that not only affect the community at large-Seriously, discontent over weed? I’m sure the right to smoke was not a factor in any slave rebellions

To put it in colloquial terms: Weed is a non-motherFing factor in this election. Education is THE factor.

Get your life

Pathetic

Looked pretty happy signing in that healthcare law Mitt. You know the one that our President used as a model for our national health care law.  Don’t worry I’ll pretend those pics don’t exist like I try to pretend you don’t exist. Hypocrite.

Entitlement and Bill Clinton

I remember a time when I adored the Clinton’s. When Bill played that saxophone on Arsenio Hall with those cool shades I felt the youth of a future White House.  After Bush #1 I felt we were going to have a president who was everyday folk. His mom was a single flamboyant woman, his brother a misfit always getting into trouble, and despite not having Texas money he was able to capture America. He gave the presidency charisma with his slight southern drawl and twinkling eyes. Just like President Barack Obama in so many ways.

When the whole Monica Lewinsky business played out on television I was angered with the GOP. They set him up. Yeah, he made it easy but why did she save the dress? Who does that, unless even  in the good moment they are planning for the bad moment when they can bury you? I felt for Hilary because I thought this was something that should have been handled between them…but he lied and it became a fiasco. Still I liked Bill. He was a charmer and just like Hilary I forgave his deceit and blamed it on everyone but him.

When Hilary announced her run for presidency I was overjoyed. Yes, I believe she is wholeheartedly capable and I was a big supporter. I was mad that this man from Chicago should try to take what I thought was hers.  It was HER time and Bill’s again. Bill would be back in the White House and I knew he’d be right there beside her making decisions. I loved Hilary… But this guy from Chicago was going to take that away. He did take that away.

I saw Barack Obama at Rhode Island College. My daughter and I were making a quick run to Dunkin Donuts that Saturday. I knew he would be there but didn’t have the patience to wait in the line that was outside the campus walls. Something told me just go…how often do you get to see a presidential candidate up close? So I was one of the hundreds who was frisked and escorted inside…(off topic secret service men are sexy).  After hearing him I dropped Hilary like a scalding hot potato. I still loved her but I wanted him as my next president. I hated their debates because I hated to see him crushing her. And he crushed her. Some of it was her own fault. She was playing checkers while he was slaughtering her in chess. But I still loved her. She lost with less dignity than I had hoped for because it got bitter. She nor Bill could figure out how to deal/handle this man. I knew there was bitter blood but if she put up a good front I’d still love her. She did but not Bill.

I hate Bill Clinton. Since 2008, every time I see his face on the news, in a paper, during an interview my disgust grows for him more. Maybe I take his obvious entitlement to the White House too personally… but he tried not only to bury Barack Obama he tried to bury the whole Democratic party all because he felt the WH belonged to him. Even now as he supposedly stumps for the party you can hear the undercutting, the bitterness, and anger he has towards Barak. The papers are always writing about the deals the President has to make with Bill to win. I want to say, no I want to scream, Fuck you Bill!!!! He’s no better than all the GOP teabaggers disrespecting the President imo. I am sick of the pandering we have to do to this bloated rat bastard who has proven to be the biggest most selfish, egotistical, blowhard as all the rest of them. I guess he figured he owned the White House and he only wanted Barack as a visitor until Hilary had the seat first. Maybe Hilary is the same bitter person as Bill. Maybe she hates the President for stealing her throne too but she has hid it well. I don’t love her anymore because I’m not sure what is really in her heart but I do want to see her president. Well, as long as there are no more Barack Obama’s around the corner. If she dropped Bill I think I would really fall in love with her again..

I got an email from the Obama12 campaign to win a chance to have dinner with the President and Bill. Bill I would love to snub you in person. To not even look you in the eye as I give you my black girl eye roll and give Hilary and the President the biggest hug the secret service will allow.

PUTZ!

When Jeans Attack

This is a true story. The names have been deleted to protect the stupid.

This afternoon at North Providence High School a 17-year-old student was viciously attacked by his pants. The school is investigating but witnesses say that the young man was chasing another friends car in the school parking lot when his pants just dropped to his knees. Sending him face first onto the concrete, knocking out four front teeth. The man was wearing his pants in a sagging fashion, below the waist.

“I peeped the whole thing,” a witness said. “His pants just attacked dude for no reason. I have chem with dude and he’s a cool dude. I don’t mess with them jeans from Hollister, same thing happened to another dude I know.”

Attacks by sagging jeans has been on the rise since more young guys actually try to run with their jeans belted below the buttocks. See the picture above.

“I cost his mom $60, I come from a decent store. Where’s my respect?” The Hollister jeans yelled as they pulled back on the boys behind. “Why should I feel remorseful this a-hole didn’t even have on a belt. I didn’t really mean to make him lose teeth, cuz his mom and dad are nice and I know that it will cost them to fix this a-holes mouth. I’m supposed to be on the waist, is that too much to ask?”

PULL YOUR PANTS UP IDIOT

Power of your Voice

My oldest and dearest friend, 35 years responded to my Trayvon Martin Post last week. Her passion resonated with me and I asked her if I could post her comment because everyone needs to read it. She said yes, and here it is.

I feel a gut-wrenching squirm in my stomach every time I hear the recording. Then I get red-hot mad. This is the very reason I “overkill” on the tight hugs and kisses with my kids, especially when they are sound asleep. I tell myself (and my husband) that when they grow up and face heartless people, they will always have the memories of my warmth, love and kisses, even when I’m gone.

Now, of course I take everything back to the power of your voice by the power of your vote. By working for the Census Bureau, I say your voice starts with your participation in the Census. Congressional districts/representation, financial allocations and community resources are determined by the numbers garnered from the Decennial Census, as well as, from other important Census Bureau administered surveys throughout the year.

Next, you’ve got to be registered and you’ve got to VOTE. Voters determine who are and will be the officials running our cities and patrolling our streets. Voters can change idiotic laws. It may seem like a slow process and your vote may seem insignificant, but just know this, some people are counting on you to think that very thing and not vote. Prove them wrong – – VOTE!

This tragedy truly bleeds many ugly realities. Some say that it’s not a racial issue. It’s hard for me to say that it’s not, especially when I hear zimmerman make numerous assumptions about Trayvon Martin. Did zimmerman start life out so jaded about young black men because that’s what he was taught at home, from television, the movies, music and rap songs? Do we blame society for his “jadedness”? Or, did he have a negative experience with a young black male at some point in his life?

Yes, I believe that this could have happened to anyone of any color who encountered an *&%@ hole like zimmerman, but being a black mother who knows a little bit about American history; having travelled in many circles (race, socioeconomic, gender, geographic, etc.); and having been blessed with the awesomeness of many black males in my life, I can’t help but not to think that this tragedy is racially tinged. So, to calm my troubled spirit, I will continue to hug, kiss and love my little black children a little bit harder and yell on my “Get Out and Vote/Census” soapbox a little bit louder.

Thanks for letting me vent.

You don’t have a say in anything if you don’t do the simplest things to make sure your voice is heard. If you don’t vote, if you don’t contribute to society, if you don’t engage in something you have no right to be upset when things go horribly wrong because you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem
