Who didn’t love to hate JR. Ewing but loved Larry Hagman? I know I did. I never seen an interview with him where he was not gracious, funny, and charming. His co-stars regularly said he was as stand up guy. May he rest in peace.
Race. It has come down to that for the Grand Old Party. With zero percent of the African-American vote and the Latino vote slipping it comes down to angry uneducated white men/women who are afraid of losing their America. Instead of calming their fears you have chosen to exasperate them. You have chosen to divide this country by creating a ‘them’ and ‘us’ America.

Well I’m America too Mr. Romney. Did you notice the faces at the Democratic National Conventions? Americans were there. White, Black, Christians, Muslims, Buddhist, Atheist, men, women, children…they are Americans too. Where were all our faces at the grand old party?
You say you are a moral man Mr. Romney but where are those morals? Where is this religious family man compass you speak so highly of but have yet to demonstrate to America? Manipulating, distorting, and misleading the truth is just plain old lying and you have done a lot of that.o

You are not what America needs at all. You are a terrorist, sir. No one may have ever asked you to see your birth certificate but we certainly need to ask you to show us your good character. But I suspect (no, I know) you lost any good character years ago. Many, many, many years ago. I hope you really do find the God you say drives you….a God I do not want to know if that is true.

I can’t say Bloody Hell without hearing Ron Weasly squealing it in every Harry Potter movie. I try to say it with a British accent but my British accent sucks, pretty much like when American tv tries to duplicate a popular British show.
Something gets lost when a television show crosses the pond. I don’t know of many successful transplants, actually only a few come to mind, Sanford and Son (Steptoe and Son), Three’s Company (Man About the House) and of course The Office. I believe what made these shows popular is the idea was borrowed but our originality was added. I’ve seen all three of the British version of these shows and maybe because I watched the American versions first and fell in love with their characters it was difficult to see them any other way. I do, however, think the original Office with Ricky Gervais does have the slight edge on our American version and I think it’s because they wrapped the show up in two seasons. We have dragged our version on way pass it’s jumping the shark moment, which for me is when Pam and Jim get married.
A few years ago MTV borrowed a popular teen drama Skins from BBC. I watched the Brit version on BBCAmerica and really liked it. I found it quite original and shocking. When MTV said they were using the script, the very same script I figured what could go wrong. I guess everything, for me anyway. I found it completely flat and contrived but it was the same script. I can’t explain it. Earlier today I caught another MTV borrowed show, The Inbetweeners. I like the original show and obviously MTV did as well so they used the same script but again it was flat and contrived. I’m not getting down on MTV because they do have a very funny show Awkward which I think it is quite good and its original.
One show I did like that crossed over here was BBC’s Life on Mars. It was about a cop that is struck down by a car and lies in coma in one world but is transported back to the 70′s in another.Again, the script was basically the same but the characters remained fresh and kept the aesthetic of the original series. Maybe because I am a huge Michael Imperioli but this show, which only ran one season on ABC, kept the juice it needed from the BBC version. I was not so happy with Prime Suspect (NBC) with Maria Bello as the flawed detective Jane Temoney that originally starred Helen Mirren as Jane Tennison. The lead characters name was changed which made no sense to me. Both characters were trying to forge themselves as relevant in a male dominated police force and although both had their personal issues Bello just never mustered enough compassion from me that made me root for her like I did Mirren. Another fail.
Syfy picked up Being Human. A show based on a ghost, a vampire and a werewolf who are trying to make it in the world despite their ‘abnormalities’. Most people I know had no idea that there was another version and love the American version of the show. I couldn’t. The actors just didn’t bring the full round of emotion, especially the conflict of Mitchell the vampire. In the American version he is such a whiner. Who falls in love with a whiny vampire?
Showtime seems to have been able to keep a lot of the grit of Shameless, something I know would have definitely been lost on network television. I was not a huge fan of the Brit version of Shameless only because this was one show I had a really hard time understanding the language! I blame myself for that but the American version which uses the same script clarifies a lot of the jokes for me and William Macy just owns any character he plays.
Now there is talk of bringing the new version of Sherlock Holmes to the networks. If you haven’t seen the updated version of Sherlock Holmes with Benedict Cumberbatch which bring Holmes into the present day, you may catch it on Masterpiece Theater (PBS). I’m afraid for this show. Jonny Lee Miller, who is British, will play Holmes and they will move the action from the streets of London to the streets of New York city. Le sigh. It gets worse, Lucy Liu plays Watson. Its due out this fall so I’ll reserve my opinion until I see a few episodes because maybe by changing location and gender to a character they could be creating another great version. I doubt it but I’m trying to keep an open mind. Bloody Hell, just bring Brit shows across the pond and let us watch them unfiltered, and unchanged. Most Americans have no idea what its like anywhere but their own neighborhood. Bringing the shows intact gives American a clean view of how others leave and you know how badly some of us need to know other cultures and countries.

I don’t care about religions anymore. I don’t care if you believe in one God or many. What I do care about is common respect for a fellow human being. It is not my intent to bash Christianity. I’m not Christian and never will be but I respect anyone who truly holds Christianity in their hearts. I was raised Muslim and although I do not practice like I should-I don’t cover my hair and I refuse to wear hijab so I’ll take that up with Allah when we meet. But I do carry Islam in my heart. I’m a good person. I treat people well and I only expect to be treated the same. I could never scream out things that attempt to break someones soul and destroy their character.
When I was a teenager I could be the mean girl. I was insecure, selfish, and spoiled. I could say somethings that would cut like a knife but you know what? That night as I tried to go to sleep my subconscious would replay my day for me and I’d be haunted. I grew out of being mean, slowly, but I found it so much easier to be a good person than it was to be hateful. I learned that lesson early in life. It boggles my mind how day after day after day since 2008 that I can see men and women filled with so much rage and so much hate and not feel dirty from it.
What is it in their soul that keeps that hate so pure? So many of these people claim a religion, claim this country was built on this religion, and will wear their WWJD t-shirts proudly but will make statements like:

May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow

I don’t see how anyone of any religion can bow their heads down to pray and carry this much hate.
When I see a child about two years old have a complete melt down in a store I don’t bat an eye. I give the mom what I hope is a ‘it will get better, we’ve all been there look’ and keep it moving. Sometimes our little precious will really show their ass but most times their behavior is pretty predictable and you, as a loving parent, should work with their nature not against it.
Why as a parent would you want to add stress to your life by dragging your four-year old child to a 7:30 movie on a Tuesday night? I don’t blame the child for their constant outbursts, screaming Go Iron Man, and commentary every ten seconds. I blame the parent. First, shouldn’t that child be winding down for bed at 7:30? Second, weren’t you stressed when people kept looking back at you sucking their teeth and shhhhhing your child? You could not have enjoyed the movie and neither did we.
I hate it when parents get indignant when their child misbehaves in a movie theater or restaurant that is not age appropriate for their attendance. Are you kidding me? You get angry with us for being upset when your two-year old hurls a ketchup bottle to our table…yes, that REALLY happened and I would not have been upset except that it was 8:30 in the evening.
Seriously folks, I know how much as a parent you still want to do the things you used to enjoy but give us a break and get a sitter.
Would it be rude for me to start a petition that after 6pm there be two designated theaters, one for parents with children under twelve and the other for adults who don’t want to hear a six month old screaming for a bottle but those adults have to STFU too?

George Zimmerman will reportedly be charged in the shooting of Trayvon Martin, according to the Washington Post. NBC News confirms the report.
On Tuesday night, Florida special prosecutor Angela Corey told reporters that she would hold a news conference with an announcement on the case within 72 hours. According to a law enforcement official close to the investigation, Corey’s office plans to announce that she is charging the neighborhood watch volunteer as early as Wednesday afternoon. It was not made clear what specific charges Zimmerman would face. ABC reports that investigators still don’t know Zimmerman’s location.
The news of the impending announcement came shortly after a bizarre press conference in which Zimmerman’s lawyers said they no longer represent him, claiming he has repeatedly rebuffed their legal advice and that they had lost contact with him.
“As of now we are withdrawing as counsel for Mr. Zimmerman,” Craig Sonner, one of his attorneys, told reporters outside the Seminole County Courthouse in Sanford, Fla. “He’s gone on his own. I’m not sure what he’s doing or who he’s talking to, but at this point we’re withdrawing as counsel. If he wants us to come back as counsel, he will contact us.”
Zimmerman said he killed Trayvon Martin, an unarmed 17-year-old, on Feb. 26 in the gated community where the girlfriend of the teenager’s father lived in Sanford. Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, called 911 and told a police dispatcher that Martin, who was returning from a trip to a nearby convenience store, “looked suspicious.” After an altercation, Zimmerman shot Martin in the chest. He told the local police that he shot Martin in self-defense, and was not arrested or charged.
Corey announced earlier this week that she would not convene a grand jury in the case. Experts familiar with Corey’s background say she has a reputation for avoiding grand juries in cases in which they are unnecessary.Under Florida law, murder charges can only be issued by a grand jury. Zimmerman may face other charges in the shooting death, including manslaughter and assault.

My oldest and dearest friend, 35 years responded to my Trayvon Martin Post last week. Her passion resonated with me and I asked her if I could post her comment because everyone needs to read it. She said yes, and here it is.
I feel a gut-wrenching squirm in my stomach every time I hear the recording. Then I get red-hot mad. This is the very reason I “overkill” on the tight hugs and kisses with my kids, especially when they are sound asleep. I tell myself (and my husband) that when they grow up and face heartless people, they will always have the memories of my warmth, love and kisses, even when I’m gone.
Now, of course I take everything back to the power of your voice by the power of your vote. By working for the Census Bureau, I say your voice starts with your participation in the Census. Congressional districts/representation, financial allocations and community resources are determined by the numbers garnered from the Decennial Census, as well as, from other important Census Bureau administered surveys throughout the year.
Next, you’ve got to be registered and you’ve got to VOTE. Voters determine who are and will be the officials running our cities and patrolling our streets. Voters can change idiotic laws. It may seem like a slow process and your vote may seem insignificant, but just know this, some people are counting on you to think that very thing and not vote. Prove them wrong – – VOTE!
This tragedy truly bleeds many ugly realities. Some say that it’s not a racial issue. It’s hard for me to say that it’s not, especially when I hear zimmerman make numerous assumptions about Trayvon Martin. Did zimmerman start life out so jaded about young black men because that’s what he was taught at home, from television, the movies, music and rap songs? Do we blame society for his “jadedness”? Or, did he have a negative experience with a young black male at some point in his life?
Yes, I believe that this could have happened to anyone of any color who encountered an *&%@ hole like zimmerman, but being a black mother who knows a little bit about American history; having travelled in many circles (race, socioeconomic, gender, geographic, etc.); and having been blessed with the awesomeness of many black males in my life, I can’t help but not to think that this tragedy is racially tinged. So, to calm my troubled spirit, I will continue to hug, kiss and love my little black children a little bit harder and yell on my “Get Out and Vote/Census” soapbox a little bit louder.

You don’t have a say in anything if you don’t do the simplest things to make sure your voice is heard. If you don’t vote, if you don’t contribute to society, if you don’t engage in something you have no right to be upset when things go horribly wrong because you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem
That our sons can be targeted. We teach our sons to not be too wild in the streets, not to be confrontational with figures in authority because in our hearts we suspect(know) that our sons will be mistreated unjustly. It’s a harsh truth on racism and we try to bury it. We try not to let our fears hinder the growth of our sons, we try not to strip the dignity that all men have (crave) because they are men. But when we send them out into the world we worry. We pray. We hope that at the end of each day they will come back to us unharmed either physically or emotionally.
As I listened to the screams of the 911 call where you can clearly hear Trayvon Martin screaming in the background my heart broke and like every black woman and every black man my thought went to my own sons. How easy it could have been them just like at that moment it was Trayvon. When I look at the many pictures of his innocent face on the internet and news my heart breaks for him and his family. I know his mother probably kissed that face a million times, hugged him to her a million times, and laughed with him a million times and now it will never be enough.
I listened to the 911 call from that scumbag Zimmerman and see no provocation for his ‘suspicion’ other than the fact that Trayvon was young and black. Listening to his calmness boils my blood. Listening to his description of him claiming that Trayvon looked like he was on drugs angers me so deeply it hurts. A bag of skittles and ice tea makes you high.
Self Defense. SMH. I didn’t hear a man screaming for help, I heard a boy screaming for his life. Shaking my head at what should be the shame of the vague self-defense law in Florida, at the police officers who let this vile waste of a human being go, and the lax gun laws that led to this damn tragedy.
I just wrote a post and I guess WordPress is making it easier for blogger to do impromptu post but it sucks…well, at least till I figure it out because I just wrote a post that included downloaded pictures and its GONE. So the good mood I was in is now GONE and now I’m going to rant about other isht that has pissed me off the last few days.
Crying. I am a big crybaby. Show me any sentimental movie and I’m in tears. My children tease me all the time about being a crybaby. However, I do not cry for effect. That pisses me off when I see others do it. Seems every celeb that lands on America’s shit list for whatever it is they were caught in comes back with an interview, a sob story about a tragic life changing moment, and those damn tears. Reality fashion show contestants are the f’ing worse though. CRY IN THE BATHROOM NOT ON TELEVISION. SUCK IT UP!

I hate the “Just heard devastating news’ status then you disappear while you get eighty replies asking ‘what happened’, ’are you okay’ etc for you to come back six hours later with you were devastated because you heard that your cousins husband lost his job. That is devastating news but heffa I thought you had cancer!
